Günter Haag

Günter Haag, lic. oec. HSG, completed his studies at the University of St.Gallen with a focus on auditing and fiduciary activities in 1979 and studied at the Kammerschule Zurich (school of the Swiss Institute of Certified Accountants and Tax Consultants) to qualify as a Swiss Certified Public Accountant in 1982. Between 1973 and 2010 he was employed in various roles as a advisor, auditor and in various management roles at KPMG in Zurich, Geneva and San Francisco. In 2000, Günter Haag became a member of the Executive Board of KPMG Switzerland, initially as Head of Financial Advisory Services and, with effect from 2001, as Head of Audit. As part of the integration of KPMG Europe LLP, he became a member of the Audit management body of KPMG Europe LLP in 2008.


Günter Haag specialises in audit, consulting and corporate governance of international industrial and commercial enterprises, business valuation, due diligence, capital market transactions and consulting on IFRS and Swiss GAAP FER accounting standards.
A major milestone in his career was building up and developing the Audit Committee Institute (www.auditcommittee.ch) at KPMG Switzerland, which has pioneered training and continuing professional development [CPD] for directors and special members of audit committees since 2003. Over 700 directors have benefited from the intercommunication, various studies and co-operation with universities to promote technical skills among directors of listed companies in Switzerland.


Günter Haag was also a member of the management committee of the Institute for Accounting, Controlling and Auditing at the University of St.Gallen.

In his free time he plays golf, enjoys skiing and likes to tour through Europe by motorbike.
